The Stone Project Animation Workshop & Book Reading

  • 137 State Street Schenectady, NY, 12305 United States (map)

Join us for this very special Book Reading and Animation Workshop for children (parents/caregivers welcome too!) in which the co-collaborators of the award-winning, dual language children's book, Stepping Stones: A Refugee Family's Journey, will be skyped in from Canada and Syria to read this poignant story from the point of view of a child of a refugee family having to leave their war torn country to resettle in Europe. Children's book writer Margriet Ruurs (author of more than 20 books for children!) will read her text in English and legendary Syrian stone artist Nizar Ali Badr whose moving stone tableaux illustrate the book will read the story in Arabic. The images from the book will be projected on a large screen for the children to look at during the reading. After the reading, children will be able to ask questions of the author and artist. To follow the discussion, the children will work together to make animations using similar stones that Nizar Ali Badr created his artwork from. $5 per person, $10 for family. Register here for this special event!
