Careina Yard
Careina Yard is a filmmaker, educator, and activist whose work centers storytelling as a tool for social justice, decolonization, and collective liberation. A graduate of NYU Gallatin with a master’s degree integrating Film Studies, Black Studies, and Education, and St. John’s University with a Master of Science in Childhood Education, her artistic practice is deeply informed by scholarship and community engagement. Through experimental filmmaking techniques—nonlinear narratives, abstract imagery, and layered soundscapes—Careina foregrounds the lived experiences of Black and Brown communities, challenging dominant narratives and hegemonic structures. As the founder of C.Yard Films LLC, she merges education and film to uplift marginalized voices, foster restorative justice, and create culturally resonant work that functions as both artistic expression and act of resistance.
