Murals & Public Art

Creating art together IN community creates a sense of belonging and inclusiveness. Each year, we work on community-based public art and mural projects that invite community members to work directly with us in both designing and implementing public art projects.

Mini-murals

Beginning in 2024-2025, CREATE collaborated with Metroplex and local artists to bring a bit of color and brightness to downtown Schenectady.

2024

“A New Day”

As part of the Schenectady DRI (Downtown Revitalization Initiative) and support from ElectriCity Arts & Entertainment District and an Arts & Culture Grant from Schenectady County, we transformed a bland concrete wall to a bright vibrant representation of how the Arts help us all.

Following COVID, Heather worked with dozens of students in the Proctor’s theatre program and ESYO CHIME program to brainstorm about how the arts bring us together as a community. The resulting imagery is a compilation of students’ artwork. A Community Paint Day also allowed us to outline community members to create joyous figures coming out of the rain storm.

Yoda Mural

In the Summer of 2024, Charlotte worked with a handful of high school students to revamp our first Yoda Mural along the Schenectady Bike Path. The side walls were redesigned by students but Yoda was saved, he got the makeover of the century! 


CREATE COMMUNITY STUDIOS

2022-2026

ALCO Tunnel Tile Project

(In Process) 

The ALCO Tunnel Tile Project began in 2022 with Ceramics Director Kristi Isabella leading dozens of workshops & community events to help participants create individual mosaic ceramic tiles. The project is ongoing with plans to finish the mosaic by the fall of 2026.

Charlotte Mack designed the colorful painted mural that complements the community mosaic, with assistance from Malik Powell and Bri Daley

Zoller Mural

Erasing Spaces & Faces Mural

Schenectady Bike Trail Mural

We came together on Community Paint Day to create the beautiful mural on the Schenectady Bike Trail during Color the Canal.

During Jazz N' Funk the community of Schenectady came together and contributed to this mural designed by Charlotte Mack. This helps to bring more colors and positive energy to Gateway Plaza.
